The Holistic Bagel Alternative

Most bagels are not wholesome. They’re usually made with refined bleached flours, stripped of fiber, and loaded with added sugars, preservatives and coloring that offer little nutritional and energetic value. Energetically, they don’t carry the kind of nourishment that sustains you long-term—they fill you, but they don’t feed your vitality. Spiritually, they often feel flat. When something is mass-produced and sealed in a plastic sleeve, without care or intention, it loses its aliveness. And you can feel that—especially when you begin paying closer attention to how (and if) your food feeds your sense of aliveness.

I’ve found a simple, feel-good swap that works for both me and my children. Instead of reaching for a factory-made bagel wrapped in plastic and stripped of life, we choose something that feels better—either a fresh, handmade bagel from a local bakery (made that morning with real, recognizable ingredients), or, for ease, an Ezekiel Bread English Muffin.

Ezekiel English Muffins are made from sprouted whole grains and legumes—no flour, no added sugars, no preservatives. Just real food that’s been cared for. The sprouting process unlocks nutrients like B vitamins, iron, and magnesium, making them easier to absorb and gentler on digestion. And the brand itself? Rooted in spiritual tradition, family-led, transparent, and packed with integrity from sourcing to certifications.

Then comes the cream cheese. We either use a fresh, local spread made on a nearby farm—or Nancy’s Probiotic Cream Cheese, which has earned a place in my fridge. Nancy’s has been family-owned since the 1960s, committed to gut health before it was trendy, and still makes their cream cheese with live cultures and a short, clean ingredient list. It’s real food, made by real people, with health in mind.

It’s not just a breakfast—it’s a better way to start the day: nutrient-dense, energetically aligned, and lovingly prepared.

What keeps cooking high-frequency and medicinal is making it your own.
It’s about feeling connected to what you’re buying, supporting high-integrity businesses with a history of heart and purpose—and most of all, cooking with joy and gratitude.

So have fun with it.
Close your eyes. Ask your body what it wants.
Does it crave something wet and juicy? Salty and earthy? Green and vibrant?
Does it need grounding? Add protein.

Make it colorful.
Make it seasonal.
Make it medicine.
