The Spirituality of Female Fat Storage
Through the lens of Western medicine, it's naive to think we carry undesired body fat solely because of what we eat. Fat tissue is alive; it's an endocrine organ that releases hormones and cytokines, including estrogen. It's connected to howsafe you feel in your body and where you might feel unsafe. As an active, living part of you, it also responds to your environment, such as seasonal changes and travel. This means fat tissue is in relationship with signals from the whole you—physically, mentally, and emotionally.
Physically, fat tissue is quite remarkable, serving as a safety net for toxins, xenoestrogens, and heavy metals, capturing them instead of allowing them to circulate freely in your blood and lymphatic systems. It’s capable of shielding your internal organs or even encapsulating an injured or struggling one.
Emotionally, fat tissue reflects how much safety you require. The emotionally charged traumas and consistent life stresses directly impact how our body manages fat, highlighting the two-way communication between fat tissue and our life experiences.
Mentally, fat tissue filters your negative self-talk. When we create low-frequency thoughts and direct them at ourselves—possibly in the form of judgment or dissatisfaction with our body—this leads to an increased need for fat as it helps process and filter those negative energies or beliefs, just as it does with toxins. So, the more you engage in negative self-talk, the more you might unknowingly encourage your body to store fat. This is a pattern evident in both myself and my clients.
Below is a list of common yet subtle holistic factors that can contribute to why women experience undesired weight fluctuations:
When a woman doesn't feel safe in her femininity, a soft layer may guard her womb.
If she bears too much metaphorical weight on her shoulders, 'the weight of the world', a fat pad may form on her upper back and arms for protection.
If she lives life armored in her masculine to juggle a modern lifestyle and career, she might lose breast fat tissue.
When a woman doesn't want to be seen because she feels unworthy of love and care, a general layer acts like a protective cocoon, shielding her from unwanted or feared approaches from the external world.
If she was sexually abused, there tends to be a stubborn protective layer around her whole being, creating distance between her and the world.
If her soul is preparing for pregnancy, her body will tend to store more fat to prepare for the energy demands of supporting fetal development and breastfeeding.
If she has a hard time letting go, releasing control, or subsequently experiences difficulty passing bowel movements as another symptom, her body may internally reflect this by not letting go of her fat reserves as well.
If she isn't connected to or expressing her greater purpose, her spirit may feel unwell, leading her to seek sweets and tasty foods to fill the void in her human experience.
When she eats food made by someone who dislikes her or from animals harmed needlessly, it carries negative energy, making it harder to process.
Does her unique astrology suggest that she needs a calm and serene environment for optimal digestion, or does it encourage a more on-the-go and celebratory setting?
When you're in a place of treading water with your weight, you might not be at major health risk, but you just feel like you're not 100% yourself. This is where Western medicine shines. Truly healing the root causes keeping you from your wholeness requires a creative psychospiritual approach, particularly for women, in managing fat storage.
I want to emphasize one consistent truth about fat tissue: it's alive. It has consciousness. It listens to everything we believe about our bodies, our safety, and the connection we feel with ourselves and the environment around us.
So, is fat really the culprit? I began to question this belief as I reevaluated it and considered a more nuanced understanding of holistic health and the reasons behind my regular weight fluctuations. I noticed the following:
In times when my fear gets out of balance, such as when my worries about finances become overwhelming or I'm in conflict with my partner, my body interprets those emotions and holds on to fat as a form of 'protection.'
Because I was sexually invaded as a child, being thin has made me feel vulnerable to the world. I've worked on healing this in my mind, but I'm still working through other ways it has manifested in my life.
Inspirational phases of life, like new romantic relationships or career peaks, bring a high-frequency wave, and I naturally shed pounds because I'm full on life; my soul exercised and fulfilled.
Seasonal changes also impact my weight, with gains in winter and losses in summer, reflecting my alignment with planetary rhythms and now it's an expected part of my body's response to the environment.
My weight fluctuates around my menstrual cycle each month, with changes that include puffiness and slimming down.
Using my Whole You Method, I embrace the flow of life. I understand myself. My body reflects my life as a whole; it's on my team.
I have helped several women achieve weight loss by healing the multidimensional root causes and reintegrating parts of themselves into a whole form.
Instead of further restricting your diet, listen to the cues from your background and present circumstances. The answer is probably tender ❤️.
I would love to work with YOU on this journey.
